In August 2005, Clayton Glass purchased two new vehicles to increase their distribution capacity.

The first of these two new vehicles is a new draw bar trailer (drag unit) which has the capability to be connected to an 18 tonne prime mover. This vehicle in total length is the equivalent to an articulated lorry. There are advantages that this new vehicle has over an articulated lorry however. Within our industry, some of our customers have premises in tight spots; areas in which normal vehicles would struggle to manoeuvre. We can hitch up this new vehicle, go and deliver to the company, come back out, hitch up and go on.

The second of these vehicles is an 18 tonne prime move vehicle. This vehicle has an increased bed length, to enable the vehicle to hold five stillages of glass as opposed to the four stillages of glass that other vehicles hold.

These new vehicles have increased our distribution capacity and are allowing us to drive forward in our aim to become one of the leading sealed unit manufacturers not only in the North East, but Nationwide.

Since November, Clayton Glass now has a fleet of eight HGV vehicles. Since September as part of our new business plan, we have a new delivery run going to Bradford and have also begun drops to St Ives, Norwich, Huddersfield, Hatfield, Plymouth, Southampton and Banbury.

These drops and new delivery runs will help us in achieving our aim of becoming a leading supplier of sealed units nationwide. With nationwide delivery, we can guarantee that goods will be delivered from point of delivery to your doorstep in less than seven days
