Traditional Lead and Stained Glass Restoration Service

As a result of customer demand, Clayton Glass is pleased to announce the creation of a specialist team to restore and recreate traditional lead and stained glass.

The team are able to restore damaged pieces of glass back to their original state, by using a combination of state of the art equipment with traditional materials and manufacturing techniques. Where a replication is required, we are able to create a traditional leaded or stained glass unit from scratch, giving an authentic traditional lead glass unit.

[More]                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            We manage the entire project from start to finish. The process involves one of our team attending site, carrying out an evaluation of the work involved, discussing the specific requirements for each bespoke job. Within 48 hours of the visit you will receive a full quotation detailing the work involved.

Assuming authority is given to commence work, the original glass is removed from the window frame (where required), the window is temporary glazed to secure the property while the work restoration is undertaken back at the factory.

Once in the factory, the glass goes through numerous processes. The glass is literally taken back to its raw form of individual pieces of glass. The lead work is cleaned, any residue of cement or dirt is removed from the lead, each individual piece of glass is hand polished, broken sections of the glass are replaced where necessary, the lead joints are re-soldered.

Where requested, to ensure the unit remains looking at its best, the glass can be encapsulated into  a triple glazed sealed unit, ensuring the lead work is not exposed to everyday wear and tear.

The sealed unit is then supplied with a full 10 year guarantee, and can be specified to meet the latest building legislation (Document J & L) or even with Pilkington’s self cleaning glass, active,  on the outer leaf!

Each job is entirely bespoke and therefore lead times are dependent upon the job specification
